What do you think? Should there be more things to do once you reach level 99? Is the reward of level 99 great enough?

For example, Sharks should get progressively faster the more exp you get in Fishing.

But simply being given another special item like the cape is pointless too. You get a cape, a new emote and whatever else, woo hoo? You'll still lose interest in it.
I think the feeling of you achieving something that you've worked on for a long time, perhaps day in day out, is the best reward. I'm currently 1 million XP away from 99 fletching. I know a lot of people think "Bah that's an easy skill to raise etc etc" but its still an achievement to me. When I finally achieve it, I will be ecstatic, no matter what people say. The cape and the emote is just proof of your achievement really.

I think though it would be neat if a particular aspect to each skill was added with a level requirement of 99, such as being able to chop down a new sort of tree in Woodcutting, etc. Although in saying that I don't believe it's entirely necessary as once you max out one skill, you skill have another 23 skills to attempt the same feat, and then another 187m exp to attain in each respective skill. On top of that, there a numerous mini-games to master, over a hundred and fifty quests to complete and thousands of items to collect. That's the great thing about RuneScape. With the continual updates, it makes the game almost impossible to complete in its entirety.

As for reaching 99, I feel similar to many of above. If you train a skill you actually enjoy (Tay) then reaching 99 is a pleasure. Not to mention if it is a skill that harvest stuff (woodcutting, hunter etc.) you make loads of money (usually). I myself am going for 99 fishing, I enjoy and it brings in money, even so it can get boring. As charlie said, when I reach it I will be ecstatic. With the party, cape and emote to top it off, I really don't think they need anything or 99 per say. However I am not apposed to high level updates (high 80's-low-med-high 90's), quite the opposite in fact I really like them.

By "starter" game, I mean a game that a child will first play. Meaning Runescape is a game that a child would first play. They wouldn't jump right into World of Warcraft or Aion. A child starts with a simple game, probably first with a gaming site like addicting games, or miniclip. Simple browser based games, then into the heavier browser games like Runescape. Once you get bored of Runescape, some keep with it, or move on. You can move on with World of Warcraft for example. It's like Runescape, but better in many ways.
I do not think Jagex needs to focus very much on the end-game part. Well I mean they do. For those people who stick with it. But it is not something they do well. Jagex is good really good at being a "starter" game. That's what makes their business good. They know they can grab the age group of 12-16, and they will never run out of customers. But still being said, there is not much end-game stuff, but it's not what Runescape is about. It's a "starter" game.

nightmare you, strand you in a desert
of irrevocable desolation, the
consequences seared into the vein, no matter
what adrenaline feeds the muscle its courage, no matter
what god shines down on you, no matter
what crackling pain and anger you carry in your fists,
my friend
it should break your heart to kill.

You'll have to make do with your cape.

Disagree with everything you said. There are many more hi skilled players now. We have been getting tons of hi level content in the past few months, in quests but also new content for skills. There is also a lot of content past 80 now.
I honestly think after 2010 not being maxed is going to be called "noob".
