Prayer and the beginning. Prayer was first introduced as PrayGood and PrayEvil. It had no use though. You could bury your bones and get levels or complete The Restless Ghost quest but it had no effects.

Prayer and the bones. It started out just bury your bones. The prices were reasonable but the skill was very slow and required tons of clicking. 181k dragon bones for 99. Then we were introduced to the construction skill that brought along with it the gilded altar. 3.5x more the xp for your bones, reducing 99 to only 52k dragon bones. Also came along ectofuntus and 4x the xp per bones. Both methods still required a lot of clicking. I remember gilded altar was very fast though but I hated ecto and never really tried it besides to earn some tokens. Then came along an "all" button for the gilded altar and I think also ecto has been changed to make it run a lot smoother with less clicking. This made prices rise because of how much easier the skill had become even though it was a little slower.

Prayer and the book. It hasn't changed much. For a long time it went up to level 43. After that you only leveled for higher combat or so your prayer could last longer. Then piety came out bring the book to level 70. We now have a new book - The Ancient Curses.

Prayer and the price. I don't remember what prices were at before the gilded altar but I am guessing around 1k each for dragon bones. I think around early time of gilded altar they were around 2k each. Still reasonable and about 100m for 99. Then the "all" (maybe x, I don't remember) button came to gilded altars and the prices slowly started to rise. We also had the Grand Exchange and price manipulators who cause the bones to change in price, which has caused them to slowly rise over the pasted months. Dragon bones stayed around 2k each for a very long time and then up to about 2500 each. Then a Bounty Hunter update with inflation has caused bones to slowly rise over the pasts months to up to 3k to 3.5k each. Jagex told us about high level content and that prayer was going to be updated. Many people took a risk and bought bones hoping that the update would shoot up the price of bones and the could make a profit.

That update came last week. The Temple at Senntisten quest and the new prayer book, The Ancient Curses. Now the highest prayer spell is 95. Now many people want to level prayer and along with the price manipulators buying bones just to make a profit are causing bones to rise at an insane level. Dragon Bones are currently 5k each at market price. They are rising at around 200 gp each per day since the update. You can only get them in the ge for max right now. At 5k each and a gilded altar, 99 prayer is going to be 260m when it use to be 100m with bones at 2k each.

I know people are hyped up about this update and want to get bones and with supply and demand prices are going to rise and will cool down soon. (I hope). But dragon bones as it looks are going to keep rising for the next few days and could get to 6k each or higher. At 5k each its 20 gp per xp and is at one of the highest in all of the skills.

I want to get 95. I am currently 90 right now but 13,600 bones will go for over 70m at to days price when a year or so ago that money would of bought me 99. I do realize the value of one gp has lost a lot and with inflation everything overall is on a rise.

I don't think bones are going to be coming down to what we now call cheap again (2k). I think they are going to settle at around 4k maybe but that is still 200m for 99.

I wish Dragon Bones were 2K Lol. :P But seriously if they don't get back down to around 4K I will be pissed.
I went to calculate from 55 to 70 prayer at ectofunctus which is the most experience possible with dragon bones still 8M+ (probably 9M by now). That is insane. Meaning on a gilded altar it owuld be 10M+!

I've been very out of touch, they're up to 5k? Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong prices, but when I trained my prayer up to 65 last year, I swear I remember them being around 900gp each. Regardless, sure it's crazy how much they are rising, but hopefully they will stimulate and get back to a reasonable price soon enough.

The bones are crashing as we speak. I wouldn't expect them to drop too far below 4k though.

Lucky me, I got to 70 before that quest came out, they were only about 2.5k at the time.
Well the prices will go down eventually once the hype is over, but it'll probably settle higher than it was before (3-3.5k range)
It may be slower, but there are other bones to consider, like big bones.
