Have you ever been annoyed that one of your old RS pals never logs on when you do? You can't make them log in, but you know sometimes they do, just not all the time.
You want to tell them "Hey man, RuneScape is great now, you should play more often!" but you never get the chance. How irritating is that!

Well...

I am suggesting a Message Leaving Service of some sort.

EITHER...

(1.) Post Office

There could be a simple place in a populated city in Gielnor where there is a post office. You could talk to a postman there, and there should be options like this:

Posted Image
^ Don't judge the fake, I didn't have the standard Player to NPC talk font, and I'm not trying to make it look good, I'm trying to convey an idea here.

View Messages for if you want to see your new messages, old messages, sent messages, blah. It's like an in-game e-mail!
Send a message for if you simply want to send a message to another player.
Block players - This is where you CANNOT be spammed. If you block a player, then all of the messages that player has sent to you goes into the "blocked messages" part of the inbox. So when they send messages to you, you will have to read them in the "blocked messages" part of your inbox. Think of it as "spam".
Never mind -Cancel.

When you talk to a postman, it should look like this.
Posted Image
^once again, if I wanted you to rate my fake, I would have put it in the RuneScape fakes forum.
^To show you how quick that was, I accidentally used bad grammar (Message instead of Messages).

Conveying the same idea here

Or
(2.) On the go

This one is simple. You know the tabs where you can toggle private chat, clan chat, public chat etc.? Just make a new tab that says "Messages" and your ignore list is your blocked list. Much simpler, not as simple as the next idea...

Or
(3.) Upgrade the Game Inbox!

This one was so so simple, and I thought of it right now...

Simply make the game inbox so you can message other players...

DOH!

This would be a good idea except some people might spam you. The blockers is a good idea though, and I also liked the way you connected it to an NPC so you could choose to read them or not.

I've heard this suggestion thrown around a lot, and I quite like it. I know famous RuneScape players would not be so fond :-) I can see this being incorporated into the game, and I like your suggestion of having the NPC as the middleman.

Maybe you could set it to friends only? That way you can't get spammed. :-D

This idea has been around forever, and World of Warcraft has a mail system.
The GE in RuneScape was probably jacked from WoW's Auction Houses,
so I don't know if Jagex will add a mail system because it'd look too much like their trying to be Blizzard..

Summoning was also taken from WoW, and Construction was also taken from another MMORPG (can't remember name, friend of mine used to play it).
----- On topic -----
I just don't like the idea just because it has no real addition to the game.
The friend who you'd send a message because they're barely on are just online friend, not RL friends..
If you want to stay in touch with them, even if they don't or barely play RuneScape anymore, you could try an IM.

But if they do make it like WoW's where you can send items, there'd be a new way to RWT.
So I HIGHLY doubt Jagex will do that because their trying to eliminate RWT from RS completely.

ive had this thought. But without the RWT.

But my idea is slightly different. I was thinking, in your friends list there is a little envelope. and next to it, it will have (1), (2), (3) etc for how ever many msgs you have. (max being 10)
To leave someone a msg, just right click on someone logged off of RS and there will be an option saying "Leave Offline Message"
Once you click on the envelope, there will be a list in a window. Name of Sender, Date received/sent, and a read now/ click on the one you want to read and it will switch to the msg.

Also, to prevent Spam, only people you have on YOUR friends list can leave you a msg.

much more simple then having to go to Gielnor.

I can definately agree with this idea, I like it alot, especially about only being able to leave messages for people who are on your friends list.

Wow, this would be a great idea. I would definitely use it. It could allow clan leaders to send messages to their team to specify when an event is or something...I really hope Jagex adds a feature similar to this, it would be very convenient.

Great idea, if I was Jagex I surely would implement this to the current Runescape game.

They've taken out a lot of things that were risky, its time they put some back.

Kinda like an eye for an eye. This one isn't too bad, they could still have filters evolving around the system to make it more secure, and flood control like these draynor forums have!

> Even better:
> When you log in, you get messages like:
"The item you lent has been returned" and "There are objects to be collected on GE" and so on.
> Why not have on Varrock, Falador and Lumbridge (Ardougne, and Yanille maybe) a post office, with NPC's that you could talk to to leave a player a message.
> Then if you received a message, the next time you log in, a NPC would deliver you a letter to your inventory, with your friends message.
> If you mind, I even got a background for it:

Quote

Postie Pete has been doing a good job lately, and he decided to expand his message delivery system. Now players can use his posting service, for a small fee. Postie Pete has hired a few extra hands (and a pair for himself as well) to help him.

To use the Runescape Postal Service, go to a Post Office on any major city and talk to a receptionist. He'll be able to take your message for a small service fee of 100 gp. The next time the player you messaged logs in, a post officer will deliver him or her a message. The post office also points out that if the player is online, the post office will not deliver your message as wandering players are difficult to locate and deliver a letter.

In other news...
...

Certainly would make contacting RuneScape friends much easier, rather than having to ask for their details. I'd love to see something like this implemented. I'm sure it would receive a great response from players too!

This would definitely be a great idea, I've had experience with WoW and the mailbox service is frequently used. This feature would be a great improvement to the game and to be frank the crap updates that have recently been implented (excluding the odd one or two)

This is a really good idea, but they could also use the messagebox thats currently used by Jagex. Instead of just having Jagex send you emails, they could use the message-box for other members to send you messages. :-D

Great alternative to the suggestion. Overall, the "message leaving" suggestion is brilliant, but has been suggested for such a long time.
