Overview:

The Ancient Curses are an alternative to the standard set of regular Prayers for Members only, and are a reward to players who complete The Temple at Senntisten quest. As such, the requirements to obtain the Ancient Curses are those as set out in the Temple of Senntisten quest.

Upon completion of the quest, and having read the Ancient Hymnal provided to you by Azzanadra, you will be given access to the Altar of Zaros. If you destroy or otherwise lose the Ancient Hymnal after the quest, it can be located in any bookcase in your Player Owned House.

The Zaros Altar is located in the Temple of Senntisten, which is found under the Northwest winch, in the Digsite, outlined in red on the map below. This Altar is completed by Azzanadra, with the player's help, during the Temple of Senntisten quest, and is also used by Azzanadra to communicate with Zaros directly.

Praying at the Altar of Zaros will give you a 15% boost to your overall prayer level. When you pray at the Altar, you will also be given an option to switch between the standard Prayers and the Ancient Curses.

When using the Ancient Curses, praying at any altar restores your Prayer Level, as per usual – plus you are also given the option to revert to the standard Prayers. This option may be toggled "off" at the player's own discretion.

You can likewise restore your Prayer level while operating Ancient Curses using potions or a Falador Shield.

After completing of the Elite Falador Tasks, the Ancient Hymnal may be used to change the altar on the second floor of the White Knights' Castle into another Altar of Zaros. To arrange this, the player must first kill the two White Knights in the room – aside from Sir Vyvin. After the two knights are dead, the player may use the Ancient Hymnal on the Altar. After the ritual is completed, this Second Altar will likewise offer the ability to switch from Prayers to Curses.

The Curses:

General Comments

  • As with the “Protection” series of Prayers, the “Deflection” curses will stop 100% of all damage caused by NPCs, and 60% of damage caused by other players in Player vs Player conditions.

  • Like the Protection prayers, only one Deflection curse can be employed at any one time, with the exception of the "Deflect Summoning" curse, which can be combined with any one of the other Deflection curses.

  • The Deflection curses will deal back some of the damage that would have hit you, onto your original attacker – in much the same manner as a Ring of Recoil. However, monsters that can only be damaged with specific attacks, or weapons, cannot be hurt using a Deflection curse – e.g. the Jade Vine, or monsters with a specific Slayer level requirement.

  • Sap and leech curses will drain your opponent's respective combat accordingly.

  • You can use multiple sap or leech curses at the same time, however, you cannot combine the sap and leech curse of the same type at the same time.

  • You can only employ Soul Split or Wrath at any one time.

  • Turmoil cannot be used with any of the leech or sap curses. The Turmoil, Sap and Leech curses’ affects applies to both NPC’s and players.

  • Only the Protect Item, Berserker and Turmoil curses show animations when they have been activated. The Deflection, Sap and Leech curses have no animations when activated, but they do provide animations during combat.

  • As a general rule, despite having higher level requirements for Prayers of similar effect, the Curses do not appear to drain any faster than the corresponding Prayers of the same type or effect.

  • The deflection Curses are effective against Revenants of all types, and upon activation may even discourage the Revenant from pressing its attack.
